Chiropractic Maintenance Care is Recommended by Medical Doctors
Let’s talk about Chiropractic Maintenance Care in Hilliard Ohio. Most people understand the need of wearing a retainer after having braces on their teeth. A retainer will help keep your teeth straight and prevent your teeth from shifting back out of alignment. Much like a retainer, maintenance adjustments to the spine will keep your spine protected and prevent further hiccups down the road – like ongoing back pain.
Why you should consider Chiropractic Maintenance Care after completing a corrective care plan in Hilliard Ohio?
The most common driving factor for seeing a Chiropractor is pain. Many patients seek Chiropractic care for their neck, back, or other body pains. Chiropractic care is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free and non-invasive therapies for the treatment of these common neuromusculoskeletal complaints. However, Chiropractic care goes beyond just natural, drug-free treatment for pain. It allows your nervous system to function at optimal levels. This is the number one reason why I recommend Chiropractic maintenance care to my patients.
Your nervous system is a life-sustaining network of nerves and cells that carry messages to and from the brain and the spinal cord to various organs, glands, and tissues of the body. In fact, your body could not function for a millisecond without your nervous system.
A close relationship exists between your spinal alignment and the proper function of your nervous system. Because your nervous is housed and protected inside your spinal column (your backbone) – misalignments and poor structure of this powerful foundation lead to nerve interference – pinching or compression on nerves. Negatively affecting the proper signaling and function of spinal nerves and where they connect to. Much like your cell phone losing service when talking on the phone. The conversations become unclear, there are misunderstandings, mixed messages, and frustration and eventually, the call is lost completely. By keeping your spine routinely aligned with maintenance chiropractic care allows your nervous system to be optimal, which helps your whole body function at its best!
But of course, what about your stubborn reoccurring neck or back pain? Can maintenance adjustments help with prevention and long-term relief from pain? Absolutely! The SPINE Journal, a prestige peer-reviewed medical journal that covers research in the field of orthopedics, especially related to the spine, recommends maintenance adjustments for pain prevention!
According to a 2011 SPINE Journal, which assessed the benefits of spinal adjustments to patients with chronic nonspecific lower back pain (LBP). The group involved in a normal chiropractic care plan followed with a routine maintenance adjustment plan,(at a frequency of 2x month), showed more improvement in pain and disability scores (surveys completed by patients) at the 10-month evaluation than any other groups. Below is the method (how this experiment was done) used for this specific study as well as the conclusion (what this experiment proved).
METHOD:
Method: Sixty patients, with chronic, nonspecific LBP lasting at least 6 months, were randomized to receive either (1) 12 treatments of sham SMT over a 1-month period, (2) 12 treatments, consisting of SMT over a 1-month period, but no treatments for the subsequent 9 months, or (3) 12 treatments over a 1-month period, along with “maintenance spinal manipulation” every 2 weeks for the following 9 months. To determine any difference among therapies, we measured pain and disability scores, generic health status, and back-specific patient satisfaction at baseline and at 1-, 4-, 7-, and 10-month intervals.
CONCLUSION:
SMT is effective for the treatment of chronic nonspecific LBP. To obtain long-term benefits, this study suggests maintaining SMT after the initial intensive manipulative therapy.
If you are currently on a maintenance chiropractic care plan or are considering it, now you know why you should.
