Shoulder pain is often paired with numbness and tingling, loss of strength, twitching in the muscles, tinder to the touch pain, and more uncomfortable side effects.
Shoulder pain is not only painful and annoying but physically impacts all of your activities, from sleeping at night to using your arm for just about anything. In the video below a patient of mine from Columbus, Ohio shares how it was impacting his day to to day life, especially in the gym.

Common Solutions for Shoulder Pain Help Columbus Ohio
Traditional Chiropractic Care
Traditional chiropractors will ask you where your pain is and immediately go to the same solutions, many of which treat the effects of the problem, but not the problem itself.
After your first appointment with a traditional chiropractor, your Shoulder Pain may lessen. However, you will likely have to go back repeatedly because your pain will come back.
Here are some of the common solutions for shoulder plans that you will find with a traditional chiropractor: ice, heat, electrical stem, and ultrasound therapy. These modalities often feel really good but don’t last.
Surgery
This one might seem extreme, but sometimes it is the solution: surgery. If you don’t respond to other treatments, you may need surgery. This is more likely if your shoulder pain is related to dislocations that recur or really bad rotator cuff tears.
Surgery for shoulder pains often involves repairing torn tissues or removing a bit of shoulder bone. Your Columbus Chiropractic physician should be able to tell you if you need surgery or not.
Muscle Relaxants and Sports-Related Shoulder Pain
Muscle relaxants will reduce the pain in your shoulder, especially if the problem seems to be related to movement or muscles. These types of injuries typically impact teenagers or young adults who play sports, especially football and baseball. The reason many doctors will suggest muscle relaxants for these cases is that the pain is temporary during sporting seasons.
However, without treating the underlying condition, you or your child will likely experience pain later in life that goes back to sports-related injuries.
Numbing Medication
Some traditional chiropractors will use numbing creams that take away the pain temporarily. This is often used in cases where the Shoulder Pain isn’t too bad but is a nuisance. The numbing medication is fairly powerful and does have some negative side effects, especially if you have to use it closer to your face.
Once again, this is just a coverup of the pain and doesn’t do anything to prevent the recurrence of the pain. The problem with all of these treatment types is that they don’t look for the underlying problem, and that means the pain comes back.
Go Further in Preventing Shoulder Pain
Instead of finding ways to cover up the pain in your shoulder or temporarily relieve the issue, our aim at Abundant You Chiropractor is to find out why you have shoulder pain in the first place. Once we do that, we can figure out how to treat everything about the situation so that your pain doesn’t come back. We have found that a lot of the problems people generally face result in a connection between the cervical spine (your neck) and your shoulders.
This is because all of the muscles that are in your neck pass through your shoulder as do the nerves from your neck – this means that neck pain can extend all the way down your arm. If your shoulder pain is related to neck problems, it is generally felt in the trapezius muscle or levator scapulae, which is at the very top of the shoulder.
The problem comes not when you move your shoulder, but is felt almost constantly. If you can move your arm freely without any problems, then you might be experiencing neck-related pain.
However, many traditional chiropractors won’t look to the neck to fix your shoulder pain.
Our approach is to look at the entire picture and then work with your body to change how everything works together. Only then can you get true shoulder pain relief.
Structural Corrective Care
Structural corrective care emphasizes the need to correct your body structure to ensure that everything cooperates together. Your shoulder pain could be because somewhere in your body isn’t doing enough and your shoulder has to pick up the slack.
We use the newest forms of technology to look at your spine using digital x-rays, allowing us to research and identify your problems using your body – not textbooks or online diagrams. We have learned that since everything is interconnected, we have to identify the root causes of problems, not just treat them.
You will be able to feel the difference almost immediately. Your shoulder pain is likely related to cervical spine (neck) problems. Any disconnection can really impact your entire body since the mental impulses from your brain go through this area.
Testing and Imaging
With shoulder pain, tendons, ligaments, or muscles around your shoulder can be the cause of the pain. Using our examinations, we will determine the range of motion in your shoulder and/or neck to see what is causing the problems. We will repeat these tests and x-rays to see where the problem falls.
Posture
One of the things we may correct with shoulder pain is how you sit throughout the day. Many people, especially those who work at computers or in factories, tend to have pain in their shoulders. The condition is called “postural syndrome’ where your shoulders roll forward toward your chest while your upper back slouches.
Another issue is with your neck. When we sit at a computer or text on our phones, we tend to hold our necks in a very specific way that pushes them forward, straining the muscles and tendons.
If you are reading this on your laptop, you are probably sitting that way right now.
If you text at lunch, you probably assume that position as well.
Once you correct your posture, you could have fantastic results, or it could just be a part of your lifestyle change.
Exercises and Warm Ups
We could also work with you on simple exercises to help warm up your shoulders before you work out. It will help you to repair and rebuild the muscles in your arms in a way that is safe and effective. These warm-up routines and exercise routines will ensure that your body is ready to be built up. Far too many people go into an exercise situation thinking that they are ready for something when they aren’t. You could be using your neck to hold the tension as you lift weights, for example, which can put a lot of strain on it.
We will also introduce you to different types of equipment that can help you to strengthen your shoulders so that you can do what you enjoy – from rock climbing to just being able to lift your arms over your head.
If you have shoulder pain and it is getting too painful to stand, you should get your shoulders looked at. After all, you cannot go through life like a penguin. The first consultation with us is completely free, so you really have nothing to lose. From there, we will look into your health history to discuss any problems that have occurred and how they could be impacting your shoulder pain.
At the end of the day, you need to go to someone that is experienced in assessing both shoulder and neck pain in order to treat problems like this – only then can you get the optimum relief.
